I can run out my back door, cross Fifth Street and I am at the library. It is one of my favorite places in town. There is always excitement there. Young people, old people, interesting people, moms, dads, grandparents. The list goes on and on. I like to look at the people on the computers. Some are reading the news, others are shopping, many are looking for jobs and then some are just looking. I think they are like me–trying to figure out this machine. Speaking of computers, they even have a man who will help you with your computer, for free! His name is Mark.
I also like to look at the Library Exhibits. They are always timely and interesting. I especially liked the St. Patrick’s Day exhibit since I am going to Ireland this summer. I am trying to read books on Ireland so I will be ready for my trip.
I noticed an exhibit this week that had all kinds of information related to employment themes. Some of the topics included how to write a resume and prepare for an interview and even how to write a thank you note. That one caught my attention!
Since the exhibit dealt with business and employment, this leaflet focused on a thank you note written to the employer immediately following the interview. It said “a courteous and enthusiastic note leaves a lasting positive impression“.
My Mother taught me to write Thank You Notes and now I know why. They leave a lasting positive impression! I, too, taught my daughters to write thank you notes. Thankfully, they still do. Now, I am teaching my grandchildren.
One great little book I find helpful is The Thank You Book for Kids by Ali Lauren Spizman. It has hundreds of creative, cool and cleaver ways to say Thank You! There are examples of creative expressions such as super thank you sentences: Wow! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened your gift; You must be a mind reader, because you give me a gift I have always wanted.
I realize with today’s technology most people would prefer to send an e-mail thank you and be done with it. But then you miss the joy of shopping for beautiful, unique or special thank you cards. I always have a stash but always look for more when I am at Tuesday Morning or the bookstore.
So here’s my thank you to you:
I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog. If you choose to write a thank you note, or pick up a package of special thank you cards or say thank you whenever you get a chance, then I know I have accomplished my goal. I would love to hear how your thank you has made a difference. Thanks so much for joining me in my Thank You blog mission.
